I think pretty much anyone—me included—can do the basics when it comes to decorating: selecting reasonably attractive furniture, getting a rug that’s the correct scale for the room (or at least pretty close), maybe some lamps and pillows. But you know what “they” say: the devil’s in the details, and that’s where I get hung up Every. Single. Time! I look at the blank walls in my house, and my mind goes blank too. Luckily for people like me, there are professionals who post photos of their projects online! I’m trying to do a better job of taking all the images I see (and there are a LOT lately) and actually applying the ideas to a project. Novel concept right? I think I’ve mastered the art of looking at a million gorgeous photos, and I’m awesome at staring at rooms in my house that need to be finished. But bringing the two together into a look that works? No can do. So today, I am fixed on wall displays. My go-to is always a symmetrical grouping of black gallery frames with white mats. Such as: Honestly, it's a look I love...but at some point (and I believe that point is right now), it gets pretty boring. So here are some wall displays that I've been gazing at lovingly, or at least with interest {all images via Pinterest}. Gallery walls are fun! I started with three pictures at the bottom of my stairs, centered with the largest at the bottom and going up from there...then I just added in other photos and picture and random objects like skeleton keys. I don't have any current pictures. I'll be painting the stairwell and redoing the gallery sometime this year. Thanks for the inspiration!

I found a really old post that showed what I started with! http://toaprettylife.blogspot.com/2009/10/view-from-my-sofa.html Since this was taken, I've added other pictures around these (mostly 5x7s), and two skeleton keys. I'd take new pictures...but that would involve dusting...

I like the idea of a photo wall on stairs. The way I did it to give into the control freak in me is to measure off and tape colored string boundries on the wall (verticle and angled down stairway). I try to use string as a guide but run outside lines if it looks good anyway. I also try to line up one edge on 2-3 frames to make it look like there is some order to it. I have repapering to do on home we are in now and 4 boxes of photos (100+) to put up. They looked great in last house and family and friends loved finding themselves on the wall. :)

I'd love to see your stairway gallery! That's going to be one of my upcoming projects (although the stairs adjoin the room with the gallery wall that I posted above-#2) so it may be overkill...not sure yet.

Very good information can be found on weblog . "Many complain of their memory, few of their judgment." by Benjamin Franklin.
